Overview

This integration authenticates with a Slack app configuration token instead of OAuth. Config tokens are used solely to create and configure Slack apps via the App Manifest APIs (apps.manifest.create, apps.manifest.update, etc.).

Quickstart

Connect to the Slack App Manifest APIs with Nango in 2 minutes.
1

Create the integration

In Nango (free signup), go to Integrations -> Configure New Integration -> Slack (Configuration Token).
2

Authorize Slack (Configuration Token)

Go to Connections -> Add Test Connection -> Authorize, then enter your app configuration refresh token (how to generate one). Later, you’ll let your users do the same directly from your app.
3

Call the Slack App Manifest API

Let’s make your first request to the Slack App Manifest API. Replace the placeholders below with your Environment API key, integration ID, and connection ID:
Or fetch credentials with the Node SDK or API.You’re connected! Check the Logs tab in Nango to inspect requests.
4

Implement Nango in your app

Follow our Auth implementation guide to integrate Nango in your app.

API gotchas

  • Config tokens are scoped to one Slack user and workspace, not to an app. Any app created through this connection is homed in the workspace the user selected when generating the token, and the connection can configure any app that user owns in that workspace.
  • Config tokens cannot call workspace APIs. For regular Slack workspace access (sending messages, reading channels), use the standard Slack integration. Workspace bot tokens cannot call the Manifest APIs.
  • Do not rotate the refresh token manually. Slack invalidates each refresh token every time it is exchanged. After you submit it to Nango, do not reuse it in another tool or call tooling.tokens.rotate yourself, or the connection will break.
