API gotchas

  • A find answers HTTP 200 with email_status: not_found when nothing is found, not a 404. Only email_status: valid is a verified, deliverable address, returned in valid_email; it is also the only outcome that is charged.
  • Searches can take up to 3 minutes when the target mail server is slow. Wait for the response rather than retrying; a repeat of the same search within 30 days is free.
  • The key is sent as the raw value of the Authorization header, with no Bearer prefix.
