# Rapid7 - How do I link my account?

## Overview

To authenticate with Rapid7, you need:

1. **Region** — the region where your Rapid7 data is stored.
2. **API Key** — a Rapid7 user or organization API key.

This guide will show you how to get them.

### Prerequisites

* A Rapid7 Command Platform account. Platform or organization administrators can create organization keys.

### Step 1: Find your region

Your region code is the first part of the URL you use to open a Rapid7 product. For example, if you use `https://us2.idr.insight.rapid7.com`, your region is `us2`.

| Region code | Region |
| - | - |
| `us` | United States - 1 |
| `us2` | United States - 2 |
| `us3` | United States - 3 |
| `eu` | Europe |
| `ca` | Canada |
| `au` | Australia |
| `ap` | Japan |
| `me1` | Middle East (UAE) |
| `aps2` | India (Hyderabad) |

### Step 2: Generate an API key

1. Sign in to the [Rapid7 Command Platform](https://insight.rapid7.com) and go to **Administration**.
2. Create a key:
   * **User key:** open **API Key Management** > **User API Keys** and generate a new key.
   * **Organization key:** open **Administrator API Keys**, select **Generate New Organization Key**, choose your organization, enter a name, and select **Save**.
3. Copy the key, then select **Done**.

<Note>
  Rapid7 only shows the key once. Save it somewhere secure before leaving the page.
</Note>

A user key has the same permissions as your user. An organization key can access every product in your organization, so only use one if your integration needs it.

### Step 3: Enter your credentials in the Connect UI

1. Open the form where you need to authenticate with Rapid7.
2. Select your **Region** and enter your **API Key** in the designated fields.
3. Submit the form, and you should be successfully authenticated.

You are now connected to Rapid7.
