# Okta (API Token)

> Integrate your application with the Okta API using an API token

## 🚀 Quickstart

Connect to Okta with Nango and see data flow in 2 minutes.

<Steps>
  <Step id="create-integration" title="Create the integration">
    In Nango ([free signup](https://app.nango.dev)), go to [Integrations](https://app.nango.dev/dev/integrations) -> *Configure New Integration* -> *Okta (API Token)*.
  </Step>

  <Step id="authorize-okta" title="Authorize Okta">
    Go to [Connections](https://app.nango.dev/dev/connections) -> *Add Test Connection*, enter your Okta Domain and API Token, then save. Later, you'll let your users do the same directly from your app.
  </Step>

  <Step id="call-okta-api" title="Call the Okta API">
    Let's make your first request to the Okta API (fetch the token owner's user record). Replace the placeholders below with your [secret key](https://app.nango.dev/dev/environment-settings), [integration ID](https://app.nango.dev/dev/integrations), and [connection ID](https://app.nango.dev/dev/connections):

    <Tabs>
      <Tab title="cURL">
        ```bash theme={null}
        curl "https://api.nango.dev/proxy/api/v1/users/me" \
          -H "Authorization: Bearer <NANGO-SECRET-KEY>" \
          -H "Provider-Config-Key: <INTEGRATION-ID>" \
          -H "Connection-Id: <CONNECTION-ID>"
        ```
      </Tab>

      <Tab title="Node">
        Install Nango's backend SDK with `npm i @nangohq/node`. Then run:

        ```typescript theme={null}
        import { Nango } from '@nangohq/node';
        const nango = new Nango({ secretKey: '<NANGO-SECRET-KEY>' });
        const res = await nango.get({
            endpoint: '/api/v1/users/me',
            providerConfigKey: '<INTEGRATION-ID>',
            connectionId: '<CONNECTION-ID>'
        });
        console.log(res.data);
        ```
      </Tab>
    </Tabs>

    Or fetch credentials with the [Node SDK](/docs/reference/sdks/node#get-a-connection-with-credentials) or [API](/docs/reference/api/connection/get).

    ✅ You're connected! Check the [Logs](https://app.nango.dev/dev/logs) tab in Nango to inspect requests.
  </Step>

  <Step id="implement-nango" title="Implement Nango in your app">
    Follow our [Auth implementation guide](/docs/guides/auth/auth-guide) to integrate Nango in your app.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## 📚 Okta (API Token) Integration Guides

Nango-maintained guides for common use cases.

* [How do I link my account?](/docs/api-integrations/okta-api-key/connect)\
  Generate an API token in Okta and connect it to Nango

Official docs: [Create an API token](https://developer.okta.com/docs/guides/create-an-api-token/main/)

## API gotchas

* Okta strongly recommends OAuth 2.0 over API tokens for production use — see [Okta (Client Credentials)](/docs/api-integrations/okta-cc) for the OAuth alternative. API tokens are still useful for quick scripts or when an API Services app isn't an option.

## 🧩 Pre-built syncs & actions for Okta (API Token)

Enable them in your dashboard. Extend and customize to fit your needs.

*No pre-built syncs or actions available yet.*

<Tip>Not seeing the integration you need? [Build your own](/docs/guides/functions/functions-guide) independently.</Tip>
