# ModMed (FHIR)

> Integrate your application with the ModMed Certified FHIR API using Bulk FHIR backend services

## 🚀 Quickstart

Connect to the ModMed Certified FHIR API with Nango and see data flow in a few minutes. This integration uses ModMed's Bulk FHIR flow: machine-to-machine, JWT-signed authentication, with no end-user OAuth redirect.

<Note>
  This is ModMed's Certified (ONC) FHIR API. For the EMA Proprietary API, use the [ModMed](/docs/api-integrations/modmed) integration instead.
</Note>

<Steps>
  <Step id="create-integration" title="Create the integration">
    In Nango ([free signup](https://app.nango.dev)), go to **Integrations** → *Configure New Integration* → *ModMed (FHIR)*. Register your Client ID, Key ID, Private Key, and Scope in the **Settings** tab — see the [setup guide](/docs/api-integrations/modmed-fhir/how-to-register-your-own-modmed-fhir-app). These are entered once and reused automatically by every connection.
  </Step>

  <Step id="connect-modmed-practice" title="Connect a practice">
    Each connection represents one practice. Create it by supplying that practice's **FHIR Host** — see the [connect guide](/docs/api-integrations/modmed-fhir/connect) for the exact field.
  </Step>

  <Step id="call-modmed-fhir-api" title="Call the ModMed FHIR API">
    Make your first request. Nango's proxy base URL is the practice's FHIR host, so include the FHIR version (`/fhir/r4`) in the path. Replace the placeholders with your API key (from **Environment Settings**), integration ID, and connection ID:

    <Tabs>
      <Tab title="cURL">
        ```bash theme={null}
        curl "https://api.nango.dev/proxy/fhir/r4/Patient?_count=10" \
          -H "Authorization: Bearer <NANGO-API-KEY>" \
          -H "Provider-Config-Key: <INTEGRATION-ID>" \
          -H "Connection-Id: <CONNECTION-ID>"
        ```
      </Tab>

      <Tab title="Node">
        Install Nango's backend SDK with `npm i @nangohq/node`. Then run:

        ```typescript theme={null}
        import { Nango } from '@nangohq/node';
        const nango = new Nango({ apiKey: '<NANGO-API-KEY>' });
        const res = await nango.get({
            endpoint: '/fhir/r4/Patient',
            params: { _count: 10 },
            providerConfigKey: '<INTEGRATION-ID>',
            connectionId: '<CONNECTION-ID>'
        });
        console.log(res.data);
        ```
      </Tab>
    </Tabs>

    Or fetch credentials with the [Node SDK](/docs/reference/backend/backend-sdk/node#get-a-connection-with-credentials) or [API](/docs/reference/backend/http-api/connections/get).

    ✅ You're connected! Check the **Logs** tab in Nango to inspect requests.
  </Step>

  <Step id="implement-in-app" title="Implement Nango in your app">
    Follow our [Auth implementation guide](/docs/guides/auth/auth-guide) to integrate Nango in your app.
  </Step>
</Steps>
