# Grain (API Key)

> Integrate your application with the Grain API using a personal access token

## 🚀 Quickstart

Connect to Grain with Nango and see data flow in 2 minutes.

**1. Create the integration**

In Nango ([free signup](https://app.nango.dev)), go to [Integrations](https://app.nango.dev/dev/integrations) -> *Configure New Integration* -> *Grain (API Key)*.

**2. Authorize Grain**

Go to [Connections](https://app.nango.dev/dev/connections) -> *Add Test Connection* -> *Authorize*, then enter your Grain personal access token. Later, you'll let your users do the same directly from your app.

**3. Call the Grain API**

Let's make your first request to the Grain API by fetching details about the token. Replace the placeholders below with your [Environment API key](https://nango.dev/docs/reference/backend/http-api/api-keys.md), [integration ID](https://app.nango.dev/dev/integrations), and [connection ID](https://app.nango.dev/dev/connections):

**cURL**

```bash theme={null}
curl "https://api.nango.dev/proxy/_/public-api/v2/token-info" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer <NANGO-API-KEY>" \
  -H "Provider-Config-Key: <INTEGRATION-ID>" \
  -H "Connection-Id: <CONNECTION-ID>"
```

**Node**

Install Nango's backend SDK with `npm i @nangohq/node`. Then run:

```typescript theme={null}
import { Nango } from '@nangohq/node';
const nango = new Nango({ apiKey: '<NANGO-API-KEY>' });
const res = await nango.get({
    endpoint: '/_/public-api/v2/token-info',
    providerConfigKey: '<INTEGRATION-ID>',
    connectionId: '<CONNECTION-ID>'
});
console.log(res.data);
```

Or fetch credentials with the [Node SDK](https://nango.dev/docs/reference/backend/backend-sdk/node.md#get-a-connection-with-credentials) or [API](https://nango.dev/docs/reference/backend/http-api/connections/get.md).

✅ You're connected! Check the [Logs](https://app.nango.dev/dev/logs) tab in Nango to inspect requests.

**4. Implement Nango in your app**

Follow our [Auth implementation guide](https://nango.dev/docs/guides/primitives/auth.md) to integrate Nango in your app.

## API gotchas

* Grain requires a `Public-Api-Version` header on every request. Nango sends `2026-10-01` by default. To pin another version, send `Nango-Proxy-Public-Api-Version` with your proxy request (or set the header in your function). See Grain's [versions page](https://developers.grain.com/versions.html) for current and deprecated versions.
* A personal access token has the same access as the user who created it. It doesn't expire, but the user can revoke it at any time.
* To access all recordings in a workspace, use a workspace access token instead. Only workspace admins can generate one, and it isn't available on all Grain plans.
* List endpoints, such as `POST /_/public-api/v2/recordings`, use `POST` with a JSON body and cursor pagination. Pass the returned `cursor` to fetch the next page; a `null` cursor means there are no more results.
* Rate limits apply per token: a burst of 30 requests, refilling at 2 requests per second. Requests over the limit return `429` with a `Retry-After` header.

## 🧩 Pre-built syncs & actions for Grain

Enable them in your dashboard. [Extend and customize](https://nango.dev/docs/implementation-guides/platform/functions/customize-template.md) to fit your needs.

*No pre-built syncs or actions available yet.*
