# eClinicalWorks (FHIR)

> Integrate your application with the eClinicalWorks FHIR API using SMART Backend Services

## 🚀 Quickstart

Connect to eClinicalWorks with Nango and see data flow in a few minutes. eClinicalWorks uses the SMART Backend Services flow — a machine-to-machine, JWT-signed authentication, with no end-user OAuth redirect.

<Steps>
  <Step id="create-integration" title="Create the integration">
    In Nango ([free signup](https://app.nango.dev)), go to **Integrations** → *Configure New Integration* → *eClinicalWorks (FHIR)*. Register your Client ID, Key ID, Private Key, and Scope in the **Settings** tab — see the [setup guide](/docs/api-integrations/eclinicalworks/how-to-register-your-own-eclinicalworks-app). These are entered once and reused automatically by every connection.
  </Step>

  <Step id="connect-eclinicalworks-practice" title="Connect a practice">
    Each connection represents one practice's FHIR facade. Create it by supplying that practice's **FHIR Base URL** and **OAuth Server URL** — see the [connect guide](/docs/api-integrations/eclinicalworks/connect) for the exact fields.
  </Step>

  <Step id="call-eclinicalworks-api" title="Call the eClinicalWorks FHIR API">
    Make your first request. Replace the placeholders with your API key (from **Environment Settings**), integration ID, and connection ID:

    <Tabs>
      <Tab title="cURL">
        ```bash theme={null}
        curl "https://api.nango.dev/proxy/Patient" \
          -H "Authorization: Bearer <NANGO-API-KEY>" \
          -H "Provider-Config-Key: <INTEGRATION-ID>" \
          -H "Connection-Id: <CONNECTION-ID>"
        ```
      </Tab>

      <Tab title="Node">
        Install Nango's backend SDK with `npm i @nangohq/node`. Then run:

        ```typescript theme={null}
        import { Nango } from '@nangohq/node';
        const nango = new Nango({ apiKey: '<NANGO-API-KEY>' });
        const res = await nango.get({
            endpoint: '/Patient',
            providerConfigKey: '<INTEGRATION-ID>',
            connectionId: '<CONNECTION-ID>'
        });
        console.log(res.data);
        ```
      </Tab>
    </Tabs>

    Or fetch credentials with the [Node SDK](/docs/reference/backend/backend-sdk/node#get-a-connection-with-credentials) or [API](/docs/reference/backend/http-api/connections/get).

    ✅ You're connected! Check the **Logs** tab in Nango to inspect requests.
  </Step>

  <Step id="implement-in-app" title="Implement Nango in your app">
    Follow our [Auth implementation guide](/docs/guides/auth/auth-guide) to integrate Nango in your app.
  </Step>
</Steps>
