# athenahealth (JWKS)

> Integrate your application with the athenahealth API using JWT client assertions

## 🚀 Quickstart

Connect to athenahealth with Nango and see data flow in a few minutes. This integration uses 2-legged OAuth with a JWT client assertion: Nango signs a short-lived JWT with your private key, and athenahealth verifies it against the public key set (JWKS) registered on your app. There is no client secret and no end-user OAuth redirect.

**1. Create the integration**

In Nango ([free signup](https://app.nango.dev)), go to **Integrations** → *Configure New Integration* → *athenahealth (JWKS)*. Enter your Client ID, Key ID, Private Key, and Scope in the **Settings** tab. See the [setup guide](https://nango.dev/docs/api-integrations/athenahealth-jwks/how-to-register-your-own-athenahealth-jwks-app). These are entered once and reused by every connection.

**2. Connect a practice**

Each connection represents one athenahealth practice. Create it by selecting the **Hostname** and entering the **Practice ID**. See the [connect guide](https://nango.dev/docs/api-integrations/athenahealth-jwks/connect).

**3. Call the athenahealth API**

Make your first request. Replace the placeholders with your [Environment API key](https://nango.dev/docs/reference/backend/http-api/api-keys.md), integration ID, connection ID, and practice ID:

> [tab] cURL
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> curl "https://api.nango.dev/proxy/v1/<PRACTICE-ID>/practiceinfo" \
>   -H "Authorization: Bearer <NANGO-API-KEY>" \
>   -H "Provider-Config-Key: <INTEGRATION-ID>" \
>   -H "Connection-Id: <CONNECTION-ID>"
> ```

> [tab] Node
>
> Install Nango's backend SDK with `npm i @nangohq/node`. Then run:
>
> ```typescript theme={null}
> import { Nango } from '@nangohq/node';
>
> const nango = new Nango({ apiKey: '<NANGO-API-KEY>' });
>
> const res = await nango.get({
>     endpoint: '/v1/<PRACTICE-ID>/practiceinfo',
>     providerConfigKey: '<INTEGRATION-ID>',
>     connectionId: '<CONNECTION-ID>'
> });
>
> console.log(res.data);
> ```

Or fetch credentials with the [Node SDK](https://nango.dev/docs/reference/backend/backend-sdk/node.md#get-a-connection-with-credentials) or [API](https://nango.dev/docs/reference/backend/http-api/connections/get.md).

✅ You're connected! Check the **Logs** tab in Nango to inspect requests.

**4. Implement Nango in your app**

Follow our [Auth implementation guide](https://nango.dev/docs/guides/auth/auth-guide.md) to integrate Nango in your app.
