# AssemblyAI - How do I link my account?

## Overview

To authenticate with AssemblyAI, you need:

1. **Region** — the AssemblyAI API endpoint your account uses.
2. **API Key** — an AssemblyAI API key.

This guide will show you how to get them.

### Prerequisites

* An AssemblyAI account. You can [sign up for free](https://www.assemblyai.com/dashboard/signup).

### Step 1: Choose your region

AssemblyAI has two API endpoints. Pick the one where your audio and transcript data should be processed:

| Region | Value to select |
| - | - |
| US (default) | `api.assemblyai.com` |
| EU data residency | `api.eu.assemblyai.com` |

If you have no data residency requirement, use `api.assemblyai.com`. See [Cloud endpoints and data residency](https://www.assemblyai.com/docs/pre-recorded-audio/select-the-region) for details.

### Step 2: Create an API key

1. Sign in to the [AssemblyAI dashboard](https://www.assemblyai.com/dashboard/home).
2. In the sidebar, go to **Workspace** > **Manage** > **API Keys**, then click **Create new API key**.

3. Enter a descriptive name for the key and click **Create**.

4. Click the key value next to your new key to copy it.

### Step 3: Enter your credentials in the Connect UI

1. Open the form where you need to authenticate with AssemblyAI.
2. Select your **Region** and enter your **API Key** in the designated fields.
3. Submit the form, and you should be successfully authenticated.
