# Affinda - How do I link my account?

## Overview

To authenticate with Affinda, you need:

1. **Region** — the Affinda API host for the instance where your account was created.
2. **API Key** — an Affinda API key.

This guide will show you how to get them.

### Prerequisites

* An Affinda account. You can [sign up for a free trial](https://app.affinda.com/auth/register).

### Step 1: Find your region

Affinda runs a separate instance per region. Check the address of the Affinda app you log in to and select the matching value:

| Region | App you log in to | Value to select |
| - | - | - |
| AU (Global) | `app.affinda.com` | `api.affinda.com` |
| US | `app.us1.affinda.com` | `api.us1.affinda.com` |
| EU | `app.eu1.affinda.com` | `api.eu1.affinda.com` |

Your API key only works on the instance where it was generated. See [Deployment and data residency](https://docs.affinda.com/deployment-data-residency) for details.

### Step 2: Create an API key

1. Sign in to the Affinda app for your region.
2. Click your avatar in the top-right corner, then click **Settings**.

3. In **Account Settings**, under **API Keys**, click **Create API Key**.

4. Enter a name for the key, choose an expiration (or **Never**), then click **Create API Key**.

5. Click **Copy to Clipboard** to copy the new key. It is only shown once.

Each user can have at most three API keys.

### Step 3: Enter your credentials in the Connect UI

1. Open the form where you need to authenticate with Affinda.
2. Select your **Region** and enter your **API Key** in the designated fields.
3. Submit the form, and you should be successfully authenticated.
